audio ( WAV )
The sounds you have pre-loaded on to your computer, such as the
windows start-up sound, and all the pops and dings you hear when
working with windows, are standard audio files, known as WAV.
Compressed
audio ( MP3 / WMA )
MP3/ WMA is audio that has been
compressed, yet retains CD quality sound.
These files are about one tenth the size of standard auio - so a
file of 30Meg compresses to 3Meg.
Why?
This means that a lot more audio content can be stored on CD or
hard disk, ( about 300 songs on CD ! ) and it is much faster to
download MP3 / WMA audio from the Internet. Compressed audio and
video can be streamed over the internet so you can listen or view
them without having to download the complete file.
Audio CD to MP3 / WMA
